How to bake a soft and fluffy loaf of bread

Here’s a recipe for a soft and fluffy loaf of bread:



Ingredients:

- 1 cup (240 ml) warm milk (110°F/45°C)


- 1/4 cup (60 ml) warm water (110°F/45°C)


- 2 1/4 tsp (7 g) active dry yeast


- 2 tbsp (30 g) granulated sugar


- 4 cups (500 g) all-purpose flour


- 1 tsp (5 g) salt


- 1/4 cup (60 g) unsalted butter, softened


- 1 large egg

Instructions:



1. Activate Yeast:


   - In a small bowl, combine warm water, warm milk, and sugar. Stir in the yeast and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, or until frothy.

2. Prepare Dough:


   - In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
   - Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture, the softened butter, and the egg.
   - Mix until a rough dough forms.

3. Knead Dough:


   - Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.

4. First Rise:


   - Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning it once to coat it with oil. Cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap.
   - Let it rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.

5. Shape the Loaf:


   - Punch down the dough to release the air. Transfer it to a floured surface and shape it into a loaf. Place the shaped dough into a greased 9x5-inch loaf pan.

6. Second Rise:


   - Cover the loaf pan with a damp cloth and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes, or until the dough has risen slightly above the rim of the pan.

7. Preheat Oven:


   - Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

8. Bake:


   - Bake the loaf for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

9. Cool:



   - Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Tips:

- Ensure your milk and water are warm but not hot to avoid killing the yeast.


- For extra softness, you can brush the top of the loaf with melted butter right after baking.
