Here's a simple recipe for making egg rolls:
Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground pork or chicken
- 2 cups shredded cabbage
- 1 cup shredded carrots
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional)
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 package egg roll wrappers
- 1 egg, beaten (for sealing the wrappers)
- Cooking oil (for frying)
Instructions:
1. Cook the Filling:
- In a large skillet, cook the ground pork or chicken over medium heat until fully cooked. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Stir in the shredded cabbage and carrots. Cook for about 3-5 minutes until the vegetables are slightly softened.
- Add the soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), sesame oil, and ground black pepper. Mix well and cook for another 2 minutes. Remove from heat and let the filling cool.
2. Assemble the Egg Rolls:
- Lay an egg roll wrapper flat on a clean surface with one corner pointing towards you (like a diamond shape).
- Place about 2 tablespoons of the filling near the center of the wrapper.
- Fold the bottom corner of the wrapper over the filling, then fold in the two side corners.
- Roll up the wrapper tightly towards the top corner. Brush the top corner with the beaten egg to seal the roll.
- Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.
3. Fry the Egg Rolls:
- Heat about 2 inches of cooking oil in a large skillet or deep fryer to 350°F (175°C).
- Carefully place a few egg rolls into the hot oil, seam side down, and fry for about 2-3 minutes per side or until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the egg rolls from the oil and drain on paper towels.
4. Serve:
- Serve the egg rolls hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as sweet chili sauce or soy sauce.
Enjoy your homemade egg rolls!
